Westchester Mobile App Development Bowl
In 2016-17, the computer club entered the Westchester Mobile App Development Bowl. Our application concept that year was called BrainSTΣM. It was a mobile application designed to help the elderly with various disease such as arthritis, Alzheimer's, and dementia and the game does this by the use of four different mini games: Stack, Tile, Summation, and Music.
Stack is a logical block stacking game that focuses on rule memorization. The blocks within the game have numbers and the user will have to learn the rules for each level. Each new level has new rules and the previous rules are also implemented. This game is used to stimulate the part of the brain that is associated with the cognitive functioning for daily activity. Lastly, it tries to combats the symptoms of dementia.
Tile is a picture memorization game. Using photos from the users gallery are used as the tiles within Tile. User-inputted tiles are then matched and scored for accuracy and speed. By playing this game over course of time, this will causes better connections to be made within the brain. The goal of this mini game is to help build these connections which will help reduce the effects of Alzheimer’s and similar diseases.
Summation is a logic quiz that makes the user answer logic-based questions. This game is a holistic challenge that is spontaneous and user-adaptive.The goal of this app is to make the individual use parts of the brain associated with learning and spatial reasoning.
Music is a rhythm game with four songs that test reflexes and alleviate arthritis pain. Music helps to sharpen the user's focus and make them anticipate events within the game. Notes with a specific amount of time will appear along with the melody of the song and the user must touch the music notes as soon as possible. This game was built to improve the elderly’s coordination and challenge them to move their joints and improve reflexes.

Programming Languages Language such as HTML, CSS, Java, JavaScript, and many other language are being taught by club members and club advisor. This languages are being used in many of the project within the club such as BrainStΣm and other side project that club members make. |
Raspberry Pi/ArduinoEach member of the computer club is given a Raspberry Pi or an Arduino board. Members are given these devices to work on their own individualized projects on their own pace. Under the supervision of the club advisor, Mr. Charles Von Hollen, members are guided to work on projects which are useful, enjoyable, and expand upon the member's knowledge of computers.
